Joseph Hunt suffered from his face and arms being scalded from the explosion on the U.S.S. Bennington. He served as an Oiler on the U.S.S. Bennington, supplying and replenishing the ship with fuel. He died on July 22, 1905.
Joseph Hunt is buried at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma, San Diego, California in plot BM, 15.
