Robert Savage was born August 1, 1882 in Texas. He served as an Ordinary Seaman on the U.S.S. Bennington. He was one of 66 crew members killed in one of the Navy’s worst peacetime disasters, when the U.S.S. Bennington boiler exploded on July 21, 1905.
Robert Lee Savage was 22 years old when he died. Roberts’ remains were temporarily interred at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma, California. Subsequently his remains were moved to Mexia, Texas on October 25, 1905.
